Hometipple, the beloved wine shop and café at 34 Orford Road in Walthamstow Village, is set to reopen its doors on 14th November following an extensive renovation that transforms the venue into a fully-fledged dining and drinking destination. The expansion introduces an exciting six-month chef residency with Lucy Timm (@lucy_timm), marking the beginning of hometipple’s new culinary chapter with plans for an ongoing series of chef residencies to follow.

The reimagined space now extends to the rear of the building with a cosy dining area, then on to a new heated, covered patio area. At its heart, a brand-new professional kitchen will enable Timm and her team to bring their celebrated ‘contemporary comfort’ cooking style to E17.

Lucy Timm, whose impressive career spans renowned London establishments including Leroy in Shoreditch and Royale in Bow, brings a refined modern European menu with Mediterranean influences to hometipple. “My approach to food is about elevated nostalgia,” says Timm, whose work has earned praise from critics including Grace Dent and Fay Maschler. “It’s about letting seasonal produce sing while creating dishes that feel both sophisticated and comforting.”

The menu features standout dishes such as Moroccan-spiced steak tartare with fried shallots, skate wing with saffron beurre blanc and trout roe, and a decadent soft chocolate ganache with olive oil caramel. Each dish can be paired with wines handpicked by owner and WSET-qualified expert Mikey Studer from hometipple’s carefully curated selection.

“This expansion represents a new chapter for both hometipple and Walthamstow Village’s dining scene,” says Studer. “While we’ll continue to operate as a wine and spirits shop, the addition of Lucy’s residency allows us to offer a complete food and wine experience.” Studer will also host regular wine-tasting events, with tickets available through EventBrite.

The soft launch begins on 14th November, with the official opening on 20th November. Lucy Timm’s residency, the first in hometipple’s ongoing culinary programme, runs until 30th March 2025. Dinner service operates Wednesday to Saturday (6:30pm – 9:30pm), with lunch served Friday and Saturday (12pm – 3:30pm), plus an extended Sunday lunch service (12pm – 6pm).
