Lazy Gen Zs are snatching furnished properties off the market and are willing to pay thousands for the convenience.
Nathan Khider, who owns the leading property consultancy Nathan k Real Estate, has observed a surge of young Brits paying a premium of £50,000 for move-in ready flats.
They are snapping up furnished flats to move in right away – too lazy to even go furniture shopping first.
One of his two-bedroomed flats on Grafton Road was listed at £575,000 for weeks without interest until Nathan decided to furnish the property.
The property expert revealed: “Refurbishment only took 3 weeks and then then apartment was sold for £626,000 within a week of its listing.
“We had fitted the kitchen with appliances, and provided a table, beds and storage.
“Another property was on the market for 6 weeks at £450,000 without a single offer. A slight refurb and the addition of a couple of sofas helped it to sell for £550,000 within a week of marketing.
“It really shows how this generation are willing to pay extra just to save the hassle of buying furniture.”
The first-floor apartment neighbouring Hampstead Heath comprises of an open-plan kitchen living room, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Nathan added: “We are now seeing how Gen Zs are influencing real estate trends.
“Furnished properties allow for a quick move-in date and an easier moving process.
“They are perfect for people in their 20s who prioritise flexibility and convenience over long-term commitment.
“This is very different to families who most likely already own their furniture and prefer the empty flats which they can make their own.
“Although the rent is significantly higher on these properties, it is deemed a cheaper alternative to investing in furniture for first-time buyer or young renters.
“Since prioritising furnishing properties, I have noticed flats flying off the market with new tenants looking to move in immediately.”
Nathan, who was the first contestant to be banished on the The Traitors series three, has his own remarkable journey.
Once homeless and living in his car, he left schools at 15 without GCSEs, before carving out a career in real estate and becoming a self-made millionaire.
Today, he owns Nathan K Real Estate, based in Clerkenwell, specialising in some of London’s most luxurious and unique homes. Recent properties include one built on an old petrol station site and a listed undertakers converted into a £5m home.
