    • From Grand Canyon castaway to top dog: Pennsylvania pooch ‘Supai’ crowned ‘Happiest Pet on Earth’
    • Adorable UK therapy dog ‘Fred’ fetches runner-up spot

Move over, Disneyland – there’s a new ‘happiest place on Earth’, and it’s wherever Supai the dog happens to be! This 11-year-old wonder from Doylestown, PA, has just fetched the title of ‘Happiest Pet on Earth’ in a competition that had tails wagging and feathers fluffing across the globe.

TrustedHousesitters, the pet-loving community behind this heartwarming contest, received thousands of entries from every corner of the planet. But Supai’s tail-wagging tale of survival and joy ultimately captured the judges’ hearts and earned her the top spot.

The Happiest Pet on Earth: From ruff beginnings to a life of adventure

Supai’s favourite activity is going on snow-filled adventures with her owner.

Supai’s story reads like a feel-good film – born wild in the rugged Havasupai Canyon (where she got her name!), she was found in 2014 looking worse for wear. Malnourished, dehydrated, and in desperate need of care, this plucky pup decided to follow her future owner, Torey Mill, for miles through the Grand Canyon.

Against all odds, Supai’s path crossed with Torey’s in a vast wilderness spanning 277 miles and covering over 1.2 million acres. From this chance encounter, a beautiful friendship blossomed. Torey nursed Supai back to health, and the once-timid 25-pound pup transformed into a joyful, adventurous companion.

“With a decade of shared memories across diverse landscapes, Supai isn’t just living her best life – she’s teaching me how to live mine,” says Torey. Their incredible journey, from chance encounter to global winners, showcases how resilience and love transform lives – human and canine alike!

As top dog in the ‘Happiest Pet on Earth’ competition, Supai and Torey have bagged themselves a dream holiday with £5,000 in travel vouchers. They’ve also scored a free TrustedHousesitters membership and a year’s supply of pet food. Alternatively, they can donate the value of the pet food to a charity of their choice – spreading the puppy love even further.

UK’s own Fred fetches runner-up spot

Fred, a therapy dog from the UK, fetches runner-up position

While Supai may have taken the crown, the UK has plenty to bark about too! The nation’s very own Fred, a therapy dog from London, trotted away with a coveted runner-up spot. This local hero proves that sometimes, the best medicine comes with a wagging tail.

Fred spends his days brightening up hospital wards, bringing comfort and joy to patients who need it most. His dedication to spreading happiness has earned him a reputation as one of the goodest boys in all of London.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to recognise Fred on the world stage,” says Angela Laws, Head of Community at TrustedHousesitters and panel judge. “It just goes to show that when it comes to spreading joy, UK pets are top-notch. Fred’s story is a wonderful reminder of the incredible impact animals have on our lives, especially in times of need.”

    Celebrating the fab-fur-lous runners-up

Joining Fred in the runner-up spotlight are two other remarkable animals whose joy-filled lives continue to inspire:

    • Mowgli: This feline charmer, rescued from the streets of Germany, brings joy to everyone he meets with his infectious personality.
    • Sansa: Hailed as the happiest donkey in all of Ireland, Sansa’s expressive face and love for attention make her the ultimate mood-booster on four hooves.

“The Happiest Pet on Earth contest has been a delightful showcase of animal joy,” Laws added. “From therapy animals to adventurers, each entry truly embodies the spirit of happiness and reminds us to celebrate the impact animals have on our lives – whether furry, feathered, or scaly.”
