London Lions is officially returning to BKT EuroCup for the 2025/2026 season as the club continues its push to compete at the highest level of European basketball.

Their EuroCup campaign will begin in late September 2025, and despite a one-year absence, the club has recent success in the competition to draw from. In 2023, it became the first British side to reach the EuroCup playoffs, before going one better in 2024, reaching the semi-finals of the playoffs losing to Paris Basketball in a close-fought fixture.

This return to European competition is another milestone in the club’s journey to reach the highest levels of basketball on the continent. The BKT EuroCup is the second tier-competition in the region, with the top-tier, Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, being London Lions ultimate goal.

It follows the recent announcement that London Lions is planning a purpose built arena, with backing from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and their owners, Tesonet.

These stadium plans signal a clear intent to help establish London as a basketball powerhouse while also fostering grassroots development in the city and expanding access to the sport for local communities.

Lenz C. Balan, CEO of London Lions, said: “Returning to the BKT EuroCup is more than just a milestone – it’s a statement. London belongs on the European stage, and we’re here to stay.

“We’ve made history before, and with the city behind us and a new arena on the horizon, we’re building something that goes beyond basketball – a culture, a movement, a legacy.”

Martynas Purlys, General Manager of London Lions, added: “Our ambition is to compete with the best, and this EuroCup return is proof of the progress we’re making. We are working to assemble a team that’s ready to challenge and represent London with pride across Europe.”
