Cookbook author and guest-chef of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch launches summer residency at Walthamstow’s premier wine and food destination.
hometipple, the wine shop and restaurant at 34 Orford Road in Walthamstow Village, announces its third chef residency with the award-winning Marie Mitchell, beginning 8th July 2025. Following successful residencies with Lucy Timm and Billy Fisher, hometipple welcomes the celebrated British-Caribbean chef whose debut cookbook Kin: Caribbean Recipes for the Modern Kitchen recently won the prestigious Fortnum & Mason Debut Cookery Book Award 2025.
Marie brings her distinctive approach to seasonal British-Caribbean cooking to East London, offering vibrant summer dishes that perfectly complement hometipple’s carefully curated wine selection. Her menu features standout dishes including jerk pork with coriander and lime sauce, baked whole escovitch snapper, and her signature cornbread with thyme cream cheese and pickled chow chow.
“Marie’s cooking represents everything we love about great food – it’s rooted in tradition but completely up-to-date, and her focus on seasonality and storytelling aligns perfectly with our ethos,” says hometipple founder Mikey Studer. “As a huge fan of Caribbean cuisine, I couldn’t be more excited to bring Marie’s acclaimed cooking to hometipple. With this warm weather, her vibrant flavours pair perfectly with our selection of rosés, crisp whites, and chilled reds.”
The collaboration brings together two passionate advocates for community-focused drinking and dining experiences, with Marie based locally in Leyton, also within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Known for her thoughtful approach that combines history, geography and contemporary ingredients, Marie creates what she describes as dishes that “celebrate heritage while being contemporary.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Mikey and the hometipple team,” says Marie Mitchell. “There’s something magical about bringing Caribbean hospitality and flavours to this beautiful space in the heart of the village. My cooking has always been about creating community and connection, and hometipple’s warm, welcoming atmosphere is the perfect setting for sharing these stories through food.”
Marie’s residency marks an exciting addition to Walthamstow Village’s dining scene, offering cuisine not currently available in the area. Her menu spans small plates, like peppered tofu with pickled spring onions and jerk chicken wings with candied scotch bonnet, to substantial dishes including whole roasted aubergine with chilli and nutmeg sauce. Sunday diners can experience her special feasting menu featuring curry goat, Colombo chicken curry, and aubergine curry, all served with roti and sweet and tangy pickled salads..
Marie’s residence starts on July 8th:
- Dinner service Tuesday to Saturday (6pm – 9pm),
- Lunch Friday and Saturday (12pm – 3pm), and
- Sunday feasting menu (12pm – 4pm).
The residency follows hometipple’s established model of hosting acclaimed chefs for extended periods, allowing diners to experience evolving seasonal menus in an intimate neighbourhood setting.
