    • One of over 2,500 free Octopus football kits lands in Lewisham

    • UK’s largest power supplier sponsors Saving Souls FC with free kits

    • Soccer kit is part of Octopus’ popular rewards program Octoplus

Octopus Energy has given a huge boost to Lewisham local football by sponsoring grassroots clubs like Saving Souls FC with brand-new, snazzy football kits – completely free.

Members of the company’s popular rewards program Octoplus could nominate their local teams for free ‘Octokits’ in club colours and branding. Octoplus is used by over 2 million customers who have racked up over £13 million-worth of points.

Octopus Energy aimed to kit out 500 kids’ teams as part of this giveaway. But the response was so overwhelming that it accepted applications for over five times more orders.

More than 2,500 grassroots teams in the UK are set to hit the field in style with their eye-catching sponsored kits. One of the sponsored teams is Saving Souls FC Girls Team, ready to dazzle their rivals with their new ‘Octokits’.

Saving Souls FC is a young mental health-focused football club established in 2021, using free football to boost community interaction, improve well-being, and reduce isolation and loneliness within the local community. This month, the club launched its first mental health-focused team for girls.

Saving Souls FC’s work also goes beyond the pitch – the club runs a men’s forum every month, an inclusive peer support group where men can talk about mental health. The club also actively serves the local community with a number of other projects including a weekly food bank and free self-defence classes for women.

Kerry, Founder and Manager, Saving Souls FC, said: “The Octopus Energy initiative is absolutely fantastic, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Until now, our plans have been limited by resources. Thanks to Octopus, we now have the opportunity to build a safe, inclusive space for young women and girls, centred around well-being and mental health.”

Nevaeh, Club Captain, Saving Souls FC said “Our new kit really gives us our own identity, separate from the boys’ team. It’s vibrant and unique, and it will help us stand out, attracting more girls and young women to join us. We’re creating something new and special, where we can truly make our mark.”

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy, commented: “We’re not just helping customers save money, but also powering up local grassroots football teams like Saving Souls FC, making sure they stand out both on the field and in the community.

“Our customers are the driving force behind everything we do, and we can’t wait to see these amazing teams hit the pitch, decked out and ready to dominate the season in style!”

This initiative is the latest perk for Octoplus customers, who already enjoy rewards like free sweet treats, festival tickets, kids’ cinema trips, and mouthwatering restaurant discounts.

Eligible customers can sign up to Octoplus via the banner in their online accounts or in their app. Please visit the website here for more information.

Applications for next season will kick off in Spring 2025. Please see this link for regular updates.
