Turning a house into a home

After a period characterised by strict minimalism, interior design is now embracing organic modernism, which finds inspiration in natural flaws.

With their natural aesthetics, Quick-Step floors serve as an ideal canvas for this emerging trend in interior décor. Cyclist Zdeněk Štybar and his wife recently experienced this firsthand during their home renovation.

Playful imperfection

You can only feel at home in a house you can actually live in. As Zdeněk Štybar is often on the road for his cycling races, he wants to really enjoy the rare moments he has with his wife and son in a house that genuinely feels like home. That is exactly why the Štybar family wanted to revamp their sleek minimalist interior and opted for a makeover in the organic modernism style.

This design style has nature as its main inspiration and the beauty of imperfection as a common thread. Whereas sleek minimalism sticks to rigid lines and neatness, there is room for playfulness in the simplicity of organic modernism.

The Štybar family residence provided an ideal backdrop for the transformation of interior style. Its towering windows, framing views of the garden, exemplify the principles of biophilic design.

To welcome nature further inside, plants serve as beacons of tranquility and harmony. Additionally, angular furniture was exchanged for organic shapes. A magnificent example of this is the oval dinner table that encourages moments of connection.

To amplify the feeling of a cosy home, neutral hues were traded for warm, earthy tones like beige, grey, and taupe, and fluffy cushions invite the whole family to cocoon on the couch as evening falls.

Maximise time

To maximise their time together, the family looked for a floor solution that would unify the entire house and seamlessly blend into the living space. As Zdeněk used to ride for the Quick-Step cycling team, he asked the Belgian flooring manufacturer for help. The organic modern design style made a wooden parquet floor the perfect fit.

Besides the aesthetics, Quick-Step’s design team also had to take into account the family’s desire to have the same floor in all rooms of the house. As a result, they opted for Cascada flooring, the very first collection of waterproof wood flooring that is also durable and easy to look after, thanks to its ‘Wood for Life’ technology.

This wood floor is suitable for every part of the house – including the kitchen and hallway – creating seamless connectivity among all living spaces and fostering a strong sense of unity. Moreover, the rich and natural texture of the wood flooring adds warmth to the sleek interior. Cascada not only laid the foundation for a successful makeover but now also serves as a canvas on which memories are built, every day anew.
