From viral TikTok trend to high-stakes championship, witness history in the making as the UK’s first-ever official Tortilla Slap Championship launches at Market Place Vauxhall.
Taking place on 9th November, 32 brave competitors will battle it out for the coveted title of the UK’s first tortilla-slapping champion, with the ultimate winner securing a mouth-watering grand prize: a year’s supply of tacos and margaritas courtesy of Market Place and Streat Latin.
Developed by Market Place and Streat Latin to celebrate the street food vendor’s arrival at the popular street food market, the official championship turns the social media sensation into a proper sporting spectacle, complete with professional wrestling displays, mariachi entertainment, and free tacos and margaritas for spectators.
Tortilla Slapping, which has racked up millions of views on TikTok, sees competitors face each other with water-filled mouths and tortillas in hand. The goal? Make your opponent spray their water through laughter from the sheer force of your tortilla strike.
Market Place and Streat Latin have developed an official scoring system based on four essential criteria: the satisfying sound of the tortilla slap, the impressive distance of the water spray, tortilla tearing, and your opponent’s reaction to the slap.
Instagram foodie sensation @fat_boi_ldn will host the hour-long tournament, which will kick off with a spectacular Lucha Libre match; the famed Mexican take on wrestling featuring spectacular masked warriors in a display of theatrical combat.
As competitors clash to claim the title of the UK’s best tortilla slapper, a lively mariachi band will set the stage with an electrifying mix of traditional favourites and modern Mexican hits, turning the night into an unforgettable fiesta!
