Luxury landmark development The Stage, Shoreditch, hosted an exciting fashion event last week in conjunction with London Fashion Week and UK-China Fashion Arts And Culture (UKCFAC), with the avant-garde works of emerging star BUZHIWU showcased in the tower’s 32nd floor Sky Terrace overlooking the city.
Galliard’s development The Stage is a 37-storey tower in the heart of Shoreditch, built alongside the historic remains of Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre, dating back to 1577. With historical provenance as a destination to showcase art and culture, the site has been reborn for a 21st century audience with design-led homes, offices, luxury retail and restaurants. This collaboration with UKCFAC celebrates innovative art and blended cultures, and invited guests to see the tower’s incredible views and lifestyle amenities.
The fashion show, hosted on Thursday 22nd February and attended by over 70 industry professionals, showcased the brand ‘COSELF’ by BUZHIWU presenting her modern interpretation of traditional culture using Chinese brushstrokes combined with ink graffiti. The collection originates from the author’s perspective on Nüshu, a unique script from Jiangyong, Hunan, China, and the only one in the world exclusively used by women, lasting for a thousand years. It prompted guests with questions such as How should women view themselves in diverse and inclusive ways? How can they become truly themselves?
The show was accompanied by traditional Chinese music presented by Oriental Music Lab with instruments including Guzheng, Pipa, Erhu, Bamboo Flute, and Zhongruan. Guests were served bespoke tailor-made Chinese afternoon tea, bringing together art, music and cuisine.
BUZHIWU made her UK debut earlier this month, with one of her designs the grand opening gown for a finale fashion show at London Fashion Week. Her works are an innovative expression of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures and she focuses on interdisciplinary fashion design, digital art, and art installations.
UKCFAC supports and encourages emerging new talents in the fashion design industry, as well as helping those from China’s less-developed areas to gain global recognition. UKCFAC is committed to encouraging pioneering and innovative designs, protecting China’s unique and intangible cultural heritage, and promoting cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.
