Students at ACS International School Hillingdon secure places at top universities worldwide

With A Level students set to receive their results on 15 August, the international school group, ACS International Schools, is celebrating its own exceptional examination results of students from its three schools in Surrey and London, who study the world-renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students now have a foothold in the future global jobs market after securing places at prestigious universities around the world, including Imperial College London, University College London, University of Chicago, University of Toronto and the University of Tokyo.

DP students at all three schools collectively achieved an average score of 34 points; significantly higher than the global average of 30.

ACS International School Hillingdon in London is celebrating 28% of its students achieving 38 or more points in the DP, with the highest IB score achieved by its students being an impressive 45 out of 45 points, equivalent to 5 A*s at A Level. The school also attained a 100% pass rate, which surpasses the global pass rate of 80%.

The top IB score achieved by students at ACS International School Cobham in Surrey was an impressive 44 out of 45 points, which is equivalent to A*A*A*A* at A Level. 30% of ACS Cobham’s cohort achieved at least 38 out of 45 points, equivalent to A*AA at A Level, and the school secured a pass rate of 97%.

Timothee, who completed the DP at ACS Cobham and is on his way to study Maths and Economics at the University of Chicago, said: “The comprehensiveness of the IB Diploma has helped me to be a more well-rounded student. I feel this has not only helped me stand out in the university application process, but also provided me with useful skills that will serve me in the professional world. I will greatly miss the international community at ACS. I know how special it is to have such a diverse group of students, and I have been extremely fortunate to have benefitted from it all these years.”

At ACS International School Egham, also in Surrey, the top IB score achieved by students was 42 out of 45 points, equivalent to A*A*A at A Level, with 30% of this year’s cohort achieving an average DP point score of 38 or more out of 45. ACS Egham, which is the only school in England to offer all four IB programmes, received a 97% pass rate.

Sofia, a student at ACS Egham, said: “The DP, particularly at ACS Egham, has been an invaluable experience. After receiving my exam results, I instantly knew that the work that goes into this programme, however challenging, is truly rewarding.”

AP courses are offered as a post-16 option at ACS Cobham and ACS Hillingdon. Students can gain AP qualifications as part of their ACS High School Diploma (US) alongside the DP and /or High School courses, or as an additional diploma.

The 243 students taking the US College Board AP courses this year achieved an average point score of 3.6 out of 5 across 25 different subjects. AP courses are scored from 1-5, with a score of 3 or ‘qualified’ indicating that a student is capable of doing the work of an introductory-level course at university.

More than 90% of AP students achieved a score of 3 or higher at the international school group, with 58 students achieving AP Scholar recognition for consistent academic success. In addition, students at ACS Cobham were recognised as 29 AP Scholars with Honors, and 34 AP Scholars with Distinction. Seven students were awarded the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma, and one student attained the AP International Diploma, a globally recognised certificate awarded to students who display exceptional achievement across a wide range of disciplines.

The AP is recognised as a prestigious post-16 qualification by universities in the UK and around the world—demonstrated by AP student and ACS Hillingdon graduate Kamil, who accepted an offer to study at the University of Tokyo. He said: “The skills I have developed at ACS Hillingdon will prove critical in an increasingly connected, globalized world – not only to understand and to be open to the viewpoints of others, but to remain curious as I continue into the world.”

Six students this year will also soon receive their final results for the IB Career Related Programme (CP) in creative industries at ACS Hillingdon. ACS Egham’s first CP cohort will graduate in 2025. The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme for students who complete a rigorous combined academic and practical course of study. The programme leads to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

Robert Crowther, Former Head of Senior School, Incoming Head of School at ACS Cobham, said: “We are incredibly proud of the impressive achievements of this year’s students, and we congratulate them on securing places to pursue their chosen fields of study at a host of institutions around the world. This cohort has demonstrated their passion for and commitment to learning, and I am delighted to see so many of them moving confidently on to the next chapter of their lives equipped with the future-ready skills and open-mindedness that define our students at ACS Cobham.”

Mark Wilson, Head of School at ACS Egham, said: “I would like to wish an enormous, well-deserved congratulations to all our IB Diploma Programme graduates. They are true role models to the whole school community, and should be justifiably proud of their hard work, dedication and perseverance. A huge thank you is also due to our incredible staff who helped make these outstanding results possible. The prestigious universities that our students are heading to are so lucky to be receiving such confident and talented individuals who will, no doubt, go on to make a hugely positive impact in the world.”

Martin Hall, Head of School at ACS Hillingdon, said: “We are delighted to announce another excellent set of results achieved by our students at ACS Hillingdon. Our broad and varied curriculum has given our students the opportunity to pursue their individual passions and apply their creativity to find innovative solutions to problems during their time with us. Our graduates leave as confident, caring, effective citizens who are ready for the future.”

ACS International Schools provides its students with internationally recognised qualifications and an education centred around building global competence, cultural empathy and independent thinking.
