In honour of the CRITERION COLLECTION’s 40th anniversary, Picturehouse Central presents a special screening of RISKY BUSINESS, the irresistible satire of Reagan-era materialism featuring Tom Cruise in his star-is-born breakthrough.
Hosted by Radio 1’s movie critic, Ali Plumb, the exclusive screening will be an evening of fun and celebration, with photo opportunities, on the spot prizes and a take-home Criterion goody bag.
What’s more, there’ll be an opportunity to buy selected Criterion titles at 40% off to mark the 40th anniversary.
Just 21 years old when RISKY BUSINESS hit cinemas, Tom Cruise became a star in his breakout role as Joel, the Chicago suburban prepster whose college-bound life spirals out of control when his parents go out of town for the week. The film yields one of the most iconic pop-cultural moments of the 1980s with its unexpected mix of tender romance (enhanced by a moody synth score by Tangerine Dream) and sharp-witted capitalist critique that remains so fresh and daring.
To coincide with the 40th anniversary, Criterion is offering 40% off selected 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases – that’s four decades of important classic and contemporary cinema from around the world, films presented in state-of-the-art restorations alongside award-winning, original supplements. The Criterion Collection Anniversary Sale will be available at HMV, Amazon and other retailers throughout November.
RISKY BUSINESS will screen at 6.30pm on Tuesday 5th November
