To mark the official launch of Whatnot’s new ‘sneakers’ category, the largest livestream shopping platform in North America, UK, and Europe will be partnering with London-based DJ, radio presenter and ‘sneaker archivist’ Kish Kash (@kishkash1) to host a livestream exclusively on the platform to sell his favourite new and pre-loved kicks and share exciting giveaways with the passionate sneaker community in the UK.

Taking place on Thursday 29th August at 18:00 BST, Kish Kash will be selling a range of his favourite sneakers live, which will be a mix of brand-new versions as well as pre-loved sneakers that have been revived using the Re:soled kits. Joining him on his livestream will be experienced Whatnot sneaker seller Jed Brailey a.k.a. @braileystore on Whatnot with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Now. Sneakers have been a lifelong passion of Kish Kash, having been influenced by football, basketball and hip-hop. Kish Kash is now a self-proclaimed “trainer archivist” with well over 2,000 sneakers to his name.

Viewers will be able to chat to Kish Kash and Jed directly on Whatnot and ask their favourite sneakers questions, as well as bid for his favourite kicks, starting as low as £1, and enter into exclusive giveaways for the chance to win Whatnot merch and Re:soled Kits.

Alongside the livestream, viewers and fellow sneakerheads will also have the opportunity to claim their very own limited edition Whatnot Re:soled Kits. There will be a limited number of kits available for free here*, where sneaker fans can enter into a draw to receive one. The kits, created in collaboration with premium shoe care brand Sneaky, contain everything they would need to restore their pre-loved sneakers to be as good as new, and Whatnot’s tips on how to get started as a livestream seller.

Some of the new and pre-loved sneakers that Kish Kash and Jed will be selling live on Whatnot include Nike Air Max 90 Off White ‘Desert Ore’ (Pre-Loved), Stone Island X New Balance Trainers and Nike Air Max 270 React ENG Travis Scott ‘Cactus Trails’.

This comes as the sneaker market on Whatnot has seen tremendous growth, with global sneaker sales tripling on the platform in just two years, and over 10 million hours of sneaker-specific livestreams alone watched since September 2021.

One of the highest selling sneakers included a pair of Nike Air Force 1 Low Louis Vuitton Monogram (Brown Damier Azur) sneakers sold on Whatnot for £61,500.

The global sneaker industry is expected to dramatically grow from $90.5 billion to approximately $158.7 billion by 2032, with the UK alone expected to see 55.15m pairs sold in 2024. Recent research commissioned by Whatnot shows that two in five Brits (39 percent) would consider investing money in collectibles over traditional methods, with sneakers in the top five most coveted collectible investments.

Daniel Fisher, Whatnot UK General Manager: “From classic Chucks to Sambas, our love of sneakers has been going from strength to strength since the craze originated in the 1980s with the Air Jordan. Since then, we’ve seen the sneaker industry boom with Sneakerheads at the heart of it all. Some choose to collect to wear, display or re-sell; it’s a budding micro-industry that’s growing because of the enthusiasm and passion for sneakers, athleisure and being a form of self-expression.

“The Sneakerhead community is one that transcends age, socioeconomic status and borders – it’s truly globally loved. We’re excited to be growing this already successful Whatnot category in the UK as the place for Sneakerheads, like BraileyStore and CultureForce, to find & build their community with others who share their passion for collecting, restoring and really connecting over their love of the latest and greatest sneaker drops of all time.”

Kish Kash’s top five tips on collecting and restoring your sneakers:

  1. Store them in the original box if possible or sneaker box. When you see a whole wall of sneaker boxes, it’s for a reason! It’s one of the easiest ways to keep them fresh and away from any dust and dirt.

  2. Store them in a cool environment with low humidity. This can obviously be tough in the summer so don’t stress too much, but if you’re worried about humidity, you can cop pretty good value dehumidifiers online – they make a huge difference!

  3. Maintain them by washing them with approved sneaker cleaning products such as the ones from Sneaky’s that are included in Whatnot’s sneaker revival kit and has a full complement of the correct paraphernalia, including cleaning wipes, deodoriser and sneaker cleaner.

  4. Have a sneaker rotation so they last for longer, as I have a few kicks that are my everyday beaters but I try not to overwear my premium joints. Def check the weather too as it’s not a good look to be caught out in a storm without the appropriate footwear to deal with those conditions.

*The draw is open to residents of GB aged 18 years or older.  Participants can enter into a draw by filling out their name and contact information to win one of 50 kits. The promotional period will open from 10AM BST 23rd August and run until 11:59PM 5th September.
