On Friday 19th July 2024, Lush has opened a new Perfume Library where visitors are invited to sit down for a consultation with Lush’s fragrance experts to find out what to add to their scent wardrobe on Beak Street in London. Soho’s Beak Street has evolved to become a hub of perfumeries over the years with Lush neighbouring Le Labo, Avestan, Byredo and Ffern and now Lush which has a long history of in-house perfumery.
Alongside the existing range of Lush fragrances, the new permanent concept store is home to an exclusive selection of 12 brand new perfumes, not yet available anywhere else. Curated alongside the perfumes are a selection of books, which are available to purchase. These are books that have inspired our Perfumers, books that have reviewed our perfumes and provide an insight into all things scent related.Lush’s collection of home fragrance and a limited amount of new body sprays will be available prior to the launch on 1st August. There’s even an exclusive vegan leather jacket available which can be scented to wear with a new apparel oil.
Lush perfumes tell stories and evoke reactions. They are made in-house at first out of necessity but now out of love and appreciation for the artistry of fine fragrance. They are inspired by literature, music and life events. The perfumes contain beautiful essential oils and absolutes, which Lush sources from family businesses and local farmers where possible, prioritising ingredients that are lovely for the customer and beneficial to the community.
The new fragrances in the collection were invented by Lush’s three in-house perfumers: Lush Co-founder Mark Constantine OBE, who created many iconic Lush scents since the start in 1995 and two female in-house perfumers, Emma Vincent and Alina Gliwinska. In a predominantly male dominated industry, Emma and Alina have created some of Lush’s most loved fragrances. Emma has created customer favourite fragrances including “Turmeric Latte” and Alina created the fragrance “Alina”, created for every generation to enjoy.
“I am so excited that we have this beautiful and very diverse collection of scents available for every visitor to explore alongside a personal consultation, inspiring books and more. I am hoping customers will go on a journey to find their unique perfume which will match their personality, evokes memories and ultimately has the potential to become their signature scent!” – Alina Gliwinska, Lush In-house Perfumer.
The naturally derived colours of the perfumes are intentional as the inventors wanted to celebrate the colours created by the essential oils as opposed to diluting them out. The bottles have their labels printed directly on them so the beautiful colours of the perfumes can be appreciated on dressing tables and bathroom cabinets alike.
Perfume BooksÂ
The concept store will host a carefully curated collection of books and compilations hand-picked by Lush co-founder and in-house perfumer Mark Constantine OBE, alongside books that have inspired and educated Lush’s perfumers, books that have reviewed Lush Fragrances and books that provide insight into all matters scent. Including the olfactory system, how scent has been utilised throughout the ages or how smells were integral to Italian Renaissance medicine.
Home FragranceÂ
Lush’s Home Fragrance collection includes candles, wax melts and incense and is designed with intention, for visitors to explore the range thinking about what they may need more of in their homes, supporting the day through fragrance.
