Lucha VaVOOM Is Bringing Its Wild Mexican Wrestling Circus to London’s Troxy

This November, London audiences are set to experience something unlike anything they’ve seen before. On Saturday 8 November, Lucha VaVOOM makes its UK debut at the Troxy, bringing a mix of Mexican wrestling, comedy, music and variety acts that has already become a cult hit in Los Angeles and beyond.

Launched in 2002, Lucha VaVOOM has built a reputation for its high-energy blend of entertainment. The core of the show is Lucha Libre, Mexico’s fast-paced masked wrestling tradition, where heroes and villains battle in quick, one-fall matches that feel as much like theatre as sport. Between bouts, the spotlight shifts to a rotating cast of performers ranging from comedians to musicians to avant-garde variety acts. Previous line-ups have included Peaches, Fred Armisen, Jack Black, Violet Chachki, Marawa the Amazing and the La Roller Girls.

The show has already drawn crowds of more than 35,000 across Paris, Japan, Canada and Australia. Now, after years of international acclaim, London will finally get a taste of its chaotic, colourful spectacle.

Lucha VaVOOM is the creation of Rita D’Albert, a Queens-born, LA-raised producer who cut her teeth in the city’s countercultural scene. Known for her satirical rock opera White Trash Wins Lotto and her knack for fusing comedy, music and theatre, D’Albert sees the show as a way to bring people together for a shared rush of fun. “When I saw Lucha Libre for the first time, I fell in love,” she says. “The masks, the characters, the physicality—it’s like the best punk shows, mixed with theatrics and comedy. It’s for wrestling fans, and for people who don’t think they’re wrestling fans too. London has always been on my list.”
