TV broadcaster Rob Bell has launched series three of Sketchplanations, the podcast

TV broadcaster Rob Bell first appeared on our screens in 2012 presenting the hit BBC Two series ‘Engineering Giants’. Since then, Rob has hosted further factual documentaries including ‘London’s Greatest Bridges’ for Ch5 and has racked up over 150 hours of programming for BBC One, BBC Four, Channel 5, Yesterday and Travel Channel.

Now Rob has teamed up with two co-hosts and friends to start his own creative project: Sketchplanations the podcast.

He is joined every week by Jono Hey, an author and the creator of Sketchplanations and Tom Pellereau, an inventor and the winner of the BBC Apprentice 2011.

Last month series three of Sketchplanations was released.

The podcast started life as a weekly drawing by Jono that offered a new lens to view the world through. And Rob saw the opportunity to start a conversation about each sketch that would encourage the hosts and their listeners to think differently and appreciate the hidden connections in everyday life.

Each series is a “journey into the heart of curiosity,” accompanied by their popular sketch series at sketchplanations.com.

Rob said: “This podcast brings big ideas to life through pictures, making each episode a visual and intellectual adventure. It’s the perfect listening experience for anyone eager to learn about everything from the science of everyday phenomena to the oddities of human behaviour.”

Rob, who has a passion for making stuff with his hands and understanding how things work, has teamed up with his co-hosts and friends, author Jono Hey and apprentice winner Tom Pellereau, to unravel big ideas with top thinkers and doers.

Rob, Jono and Tom have been friends for 25 years after meeting at Bath uni where studied for Masters in Mechanical Engineering.

Together they take a deep dive into a variety of topics around innovation and understanding.

You can now join the hosts on all streaming platforms as they discuss everything from science to daily life hacks, all simplified through engaging sketches that make learning both fun and insightful while sharing their own perspectives as professionals, friends and fathers.

Rob, who is newly married and has his first baby on the way, said: “Sketchplanations the Podcast isn’t just an explainer — it’s an invitation to see the world differently. Every sketch and conversation encourages you to rethink old perspectives, discover interconnectedness, and find joy in understanding. It’s perfect for anyone who’s ever been curious about… well, anything!”

Rob actively supports a number of charities, including as an ambassador for Prostate Cancer UK. He also loves pushing his own physical limits through adventure and endurance sports.

You can follow the podcast and hosts at: @Sketchplanations on Instagram or via the website.
