Londoners are the UK’s most connected city-dwellers, making 80% more calls and messages than the national average, totaling 54 per day. The capital also leads in messaging, with Londoners sending an average of 50 messages daily, ahead of Scotland (43) and Wales (30).

Vodafone’s network data highlights Central London as the busiest hub for digital activity, with Westminster, Newham, and Canary Wharf accounting for 17% of the city’s total voice and data usage. Westminster tops the charts for both calls and data consumption, with 1 million voice calls made each day. Those in the south of the city make 400,000 more calls than the north, yet Central Londoners consume the most data overall.

To celebrate being named London’s Best Network by NET CHECK* for the second year running, Vodafone unveiled ‘Connected Heartbeat’—a striking, heart-shaped installation in Trafalgar Square. Created in partnership with local artist Frankie Curtis, the artwork features her signature line drawings of the capital, including its most iconic landmarks.

The interactive structure is powered by real-time data from over 2,000 Vodafone network towers across the city. Every call and message sent contributes to a dazzling light display, visually representing London’s constant digital pulse.

Broadcaster Roman Kemp joined fellow radio host Melvin Odoom and commuters to bring the installation to life, challenging Londoners to light up the ‘Connected Heartbeat’ by reaching out to friends and loved ones.

The installation launch coincides with new research revealing that 7-8 PM is the peak hour for Londoners to connect, with the average person sending 11 messages and making 4 calls during this time. With nearly 16 million calls and 1.7PB of data used on Vodafone’s network daily, the capital is more connected than ever.
