How Bake Off is influencing the men of the nation…

BUN-BELIEVABLE! ALDI REVEALS A HUGE SURGE IN MEN DONNING THEIR APRONS AFTER AN EPISODE OF THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF

  • New research reveals over a third (34%) of men are getting in the kitchen, compared a quarter (24%) of women

As fans tuck in to the second episode of season 15, new research from the supermarket has revealed that over a third (34%) of men are inspired to bake after every single episode, compared to just a quarter (24%) of women.

Brits also ranked their favourite Bake Off stars of all time, with season 6’s Nadiya Hussain taking the cake. She was closely followed by Candice Brown from season 7, then Steven Carter-Bailey from season 8.

Three in four (74%) said they have baked at home after watching GBBO, however half (50%) admit to sneaking out to the shops to purchase a bake they’ve spotted on the show instead.

In fact, last year following chocolate week’s cheesecake technical challenge, Aldi saw some shoppers taking the cheesy option rather than baking from scratch, with a 42% increase in cheesecake purchases.2  With items such as Specially Selected Belgian Chocolate Zillionaire’s Cheesecakes (£2.39, 2x90g) and Dessert Menu Triple Chocolate Cheesecake (£2.99, 740g) flying from shelves.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK says: “We love seeing our shoppers rising to the occasion and celebrating the return of The Great British Bake Off. Last year we saw an uplift in sales of everything from flour to chocolate chips and icing sugar whilst GBBO was on our screens, so we can’t wait to see shoppers raising the bar with a little help from Aldi this year.

“Whether baking or buying, Aldi is proud to offer shoppers all the quality products and ingredients they need to be crowned Star Baker, at a showstoppingly low prices.”

It’s no surprise some shoppers opt to buy rather than bake at home, with 67% of fans admitting that watching GBBO has made them realise how difficult baking can be. Nearly two thirds (61%) of Brits say watching an episode makes them hungry for what they’ve seen, with 38% stating they can’t wait to get in the kitchen, and nearly a third (31%) saying watching an episode makes them want to pop to the shops to pick up baking ingredients.

Bake Off fans top five favourite bakers from over the years:

  1. Nadiya Hussain (Series 6)
  1. Candice Brown (Series 7)
  1. Steven Carter-Bailey (Series 8)
  1. Kim-Joy Hewlett (Series 9)
  2. Laura Adlington (Series 11)

Self-crowned Star Bakers can pick up all the baking essentials from Aldi from just 65p, making it even easier to whip up a showstopper at home.

Shoppers can grab Aldi’s ingredients for home baking in store now.
