Fast-growing recruitment business, Hernshead Group, is celebrating 5 impressive years in business following the success of its growth and acquisition strategy.

Driven by an unwavering belief in the importance of partnerships over placements, Hernshead Recruitment was initially established by experienced recruiter, Tom Johnson, in 2019, with a clear niche in the technology, manufacturing, and engineering sectors.

With ambitious plans to scale the business, Tom approached Lord Sugar for investment in 2019, and secured substantial backing via the business tycoon’s private investment vehicle, Amsvest.

Since this time, Tom has worked closely with Lord Sugar and his team to establish the Hernshead brand within the advanced engineering recruitment sector, while building out an overarching Group structure to scale growth, expand into wider markets and support aspiring recruitment leaders in launching their own businesses.

As a result, Hernshead Group now boasts four individual brands under its umbrella, having acquired Harlow Recruitment and Skiez Recruitment and launched new content, social media, and branding business, Baluna Creative.

In turn, the Group has achieved an impressive £2.9 million turnover, and is already on track to accelerate growth by a further 35% by the close of 2024.

Tom Johnson, Founder and Managing Director of Hernshead Group, confirmed: “Over the last 5 years, Hernshead Group has grown from a niche recruitment business in the advanced engineering sector into an industry leading brand, underpinned by a portfolio of agencies, united in the same passion for people over placements.

While we are committed to building Hernshead into one of the UK’s largest privately owned recruitment groups, I am also extremely passionate about supporting the development of aspiring entrepreneurs within the recruitment space and want to help as many leaders as possible launch their own brand with the security of the Hernshead umbrella.

This level of growth within such a short amount of time would not have been possible without the support of Lord Sugar and his team, for which I am incredibly grateful. I am now incredibly excited about what the future holds – watch this space.”

Lord Sugar added: “Time does fly, I can’t believe it has been 5 years. But in that time, Tom has managed to achieve some great stuff and win some great clients, all starting from zero. The business has had great success because Tom and the Hernshead team understand their markets, which is the most important thing. In recruitment you need to be able to deliver and that’s what Tom has done and more, all driven by his background as a great recruiter.”

Headquartered in Reading, Hernshead Group now employs a team of 20+ recruitment specialists and is on track to launch 10 new recruitment businesses under the group umbrella before 2030.
