Dusty Knuckle, Arsenal’s Emirates and Hyde Park – the London hotspots of the year so far, as revealed by Lime

  • London’s parks, football stadiums and bakeries – Lime rounds up all the places Londoners loved visiting in the first three months of 2024

  • Riders got their sandwich fix at Dusty Knuckle, while Arsenal fans came up top as the greenest footie fans most likely to ride Lime to their match days

Cycling in London is booming – last year, the number of daily cycle journeys hit an estimated 1.26 million per day. To better understand where everyone is cycling, e-bike and e-scooter company Lime delved into its rider data to round up some of the city’s most popular destinations on two wheels. In its inaugural quarterly rider trend analysis, Lime found its riders are turning to its green and white bikes for their sporting fixes, morning pastries and more.

Out of office!

Londoners’ love for coffees and baked goods is unmatched and it’s clear bakeries are having a moment, but which is the most popular for Limers? Lime analysed rides taken to five of the city’s current favourite bakery hotspots, and found Dusty Knuckle took the crown, with a staggering 65% of bakery-bound rides made to its locations – we can only assume for its famous delicious sandwiches. This was followed by Jolene and Pophams, with riders treating themselves to their renowned pastries and savoury snacks.

When the weather worked in our favour, Londoners embraced the capital’s green spaces on weekend mornings in search of what we can only assume are fitness fixes and maybe the occasional hangover cure. Hyde Park was the most popular park for a bike ride according to analysis into 10 of London’s favourite parks on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Just under a quarter (23%) of Lime’s total pedals-to-the-park on weekend mornings took place on Hyde Park’s paths. Coming in second- and third-place of the 10 were two South London hotspots: Clapham Common (14%) and Battersea Park (13%).

Sport Spectators

The world of sport got off to a green start in 2024 – with plenty of football diehards choosing Lime as their preferred mode of transport to get to home games at London’s six Premier League clubs. Lime tallied up all rides taken to the six stadiums on their respective match days during the first three months of the year to conduct its analysis, and Arsenal’s ‘Gunners’ just came up top with London’s greenest football fans. Arsenal fans comprised one quarter (25%) of the total match day Lime trips to local home games, at the Emirates. It was close at the top of the table, as Chelsea’s ‘Blues’ and West Ham’s ‘Hammers’ were just a point off the pace, with each of their fans’ Lime journeys representing 24% of total match day trips in the capital respectively.

It wasn’t just football followers who opted for sustainable transport to games. Unsurprisingly, the date with the most Lime trips to Twickenham in the first three months of 2024 was on 9th March, as rugby fans travelled to watch England face off Ireland in the Six Nations. Meanwhile, the dates with the most Lime trips to and from Wembley Stadium were 24th and 25th February when Liverpool faced Chelsea for the Carabao Cup Final.

Commuter craze holds strong

Londoners also continued to integrate cycling into their work-life patterns, as well as their social lives. The most morning commutes started in the borough of Southwark followed closely by East Londoners in the borough of Hackney.

Manish Kharel, General Manager at Lime in London said: “Lime has become a synonymous part of London’s culture, and we can see from our riders’ trips how their journeys directly correspond with wider cultural trends and events. We love seeing how Londoners are choosing green transport as their first port of call to hit up their favourite foodie hotspots, team’s match days and more – despite the grey, and drizzly start to the year. They are embracing active travel on a daily basis, from commutes but also in their out of office lifestyles. We’re excited to see what the summer brings for Lime riders, and to continue providing them with convenient transport options as the year progresses.”
