Mute, manufacturer of adaptable office architecture, will kick off this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week with a redesigned showroom featuring its new collection of Modular Pods (part of Mute Modular system), an insightful presentation on Neurodiversity within the workplace by Piers Roberts, and a panel discussion on ‘Designing Tomorrow’s Offices: Flexibility, Sustainability, and Collaboration’ chaired by Mick Jordan Editor of Works Magazine with panellists May Fawzy of MF Design Studio, Professor Robert Schmidt III, Colin Macgadie from ForEveryday.Life and Pernille Bonser of Resonate Interiors.

Mute’s revolutionary Modular Pod collection is the first flexible pod family and features 40 models in 11 sizes and caters for between 1 and 8 people meeting the diverse needs of the industry. This new range follows the success of Mute Modular, an adaptable room-in-room system. The new additions to the range focus on flexibility, so that users can arrange and rearrange to achieve hundreds of different settings and create a pod that is precisely tailored to their needs and fits seamlessly into any office environment. This unique product collection will be proudly displayed for a pre-preview at Mute’s freshly redesigned Clerkenwell showroom. Visitors will be invited to test the acoustic properties of Mute’s pods themselves, coupled with drinks and two dialogues which will take place on 20th May 11:00 and 21st May 11:00. With live pod reconfigurations occurring on the 20th at 14:30, the 21st at 14:30 and the 22nd at 11:00 and 14:30.

Designing Tomorrow’s Offices: Flexibility, Sustainability, and Collaboration

21st May 11:00 – Mute Showroom 32 Great Sutton Street

Visitors will gain an insight into the design of the flexible office and how it impacts a variety of stakeholders with Mick Jordan leading the discussion on the future of office environments, how adaptable spaces can lead to meaningful change within office design and how we can foster a culture of adaptability within the industry. With panellists May Fawzy, Interior Architecture Director of MF Design Studio, Dr Robert Schmidt III, Reader in Architectural Design, Colin Macgadie, Founding Director of ForEveryday.Life and Pernille Bonser, CEO Resonate Interiors it will be one not to miss.

Neurodiversity in the Workplace – What it is, Why it matters and How it’s Shaping Industries.

20th May 11:00 – Mute Showroom 32 Great Sutton Street

The second event will centre around neurodiversity in the workplace, hosted by Piers Roberts, Founder and Director of Trinary. In this presentation on Neurodiversity in the Workplace, Piers shares personal stories of his role producing design and architecture festivals in Clerkenwell before CDW was formed. He also speaks of being autistic and why that matters. Thinking, feeling, seeing and making sense of the world differently has contributed to him becoming a ‘super cool kid’, yet this still wasn’t enough to negotiate the ‘unwritten rules’ of the workplace or constructing client relationships. The talk delves into the broader implications of neurodiversity, offering insights on common strengths and challenges, together with actionable tips for fostering an inclusive workplace.

Mute has taken on the task of redefining the work pod, taking an anti-one-size-fits-all stance.

“The market standard of offering pods in only four sizes, each with a single default setup, is both outdated and inadequate for modern offices. With such limited options, it’s impossible for a pod to meet every requirement. It’s time for a change—Modular Pods enable users to shape their pods to fit their space, rather than the other way around.” Szymon Rychlik, CEO of Mute.

Mute Modular Pods are part of the Mute Modular office system which was launched in 2023. The Mute Modular system is adaptable, able to grow and change with a user. It can also be arranged to create 92% of office room types and come in small, medium, large and connected options. A variety of modular sofas, tables and height-adjustable desks are available as part of the range, allowing users to custom choose every possible aspect of their space.

In the spirit of new releases, Mute is also bringing to the table a series of new colours, fabrics and finishes to pair with Mute Modular and Modular Pods. The expanded palette will feature 24 colours and will centre around earthy tones and classic colours that will never go out of style.
