Jordana Ashkenazi has seen a 400% increase in requests for home cinemas to be incorporated into new designs.

She revealed that they are being installed in basements, garages, spare rooms and even attics.

The luxury interior designer is currently designing cinema rooms for houses in South Kensington, Surrey and Clapham Junction – all affluent areas in and around the city.

Jordana said: “Londoners are turning their unused space into home cinemas.

“It is the latest way to stand out in the property market, and several high net worth clients are putting in requests to incorporate these media rooms into the designs.”

Technology advancements such as the Dolby Atmos surround sound system and the ability to stream in 4K and 8K has fuelled the demand for an immersive setup to watch live sports and films at home.

This comes as cinema attendance returns to pre-pandemic levels for the first time in five years.

The Founder and Designer Director of Element One House revealed: “A room can be transformed into the perfect environment for movie nights by adding acoustic treatment, dark and comfortable furniture, tiered seating, a projector, Atmos speaker layout and integrated lighting scenes.

“Most of the cinema rooms are designed for 4-8 people, but some even opt for seating for 10-14 if they have a larger space.

“It is a common request for the media rooms to have hidden or retractable kit so that they can also serve as a standard living room.”

Cinema rooms can range in price from £3000 to over £100,000.

Jordana added: “There are three tiers to the pricing of home cinemas.

“The first tier, costing between £3000-£15,000, standardly consists of a TV or projector, a soundbar, blackout and basic seating. These are easy to fit in any room of the house and have become very popular this year amongst the middle class.

“The middle tier values at around £8500-£21,000 and is slightly more high-tech. We can fit a calibrated projector, Dolby Atmos AVR and in-ceiling or on-wall speakers, acoustic panels and lighting control, to make you feel like you really are at the cinema.

“The rooms over £25,000 to build are bespoke, with premium projectors, LED walls, engineered acoustics, reference-grade Atmos, automation and high-spec finishes.

“These cinemas all rival the real experience and allow homeowners to relax in their own space.

“They are the perfect rooms for entertaining guests or spending time with the family, watching films, sport or gaming together.

“The technology is often discreet allowing the room to be used as a standard lounge when it is not a cinema.

“Luxury is the main driver for owning a home cinema; however several see cinema rooms as a lifestyle upgrade that can also enhance resale appeal in London’s competitive market

“I expect to receive several more cinema room requests for properties across London.”

Jordana has over a decade of experience working in interior design, buying, and homeware development having established Element One House back in 2013.

Element One House, is a dynamic and innovative designs studio which specialises In both commercial and residential properties, embracing a holistic approach to the design and development process. All designs reflect the individuality of clients and bring their visions to life.
