Celebrating the Gin Cocktail at PocketSquare Skyline Bar & Terrace

PocketSquare – the east London rooftop bar with skyline terrace – will launch a winter menu celebrating gin cocktails. Accompanying the menu will be collection of pop-art inspired cocktail prints and a seasonal makeover of the bar’s alfresco terrace.

Situated in Whitechapel, PocketSquare has become a favourite for its inventive cocktails and unbeatable views across east London. For the bar’s seventh menu since opening over three years ago, the team looked back at their most popular cocktails since the launch and found them all to include gin. In honour of this their latest menu celebrates the bar’s signature gin cocktails.

“Gin is an incredibly versatile spirit for cocktail making and my favourite for experimental cocktails. It can add a delicate flavour profile that sits alongside other flavours without overpowering them and complements other spirits well. We also have so many quality gins to choose from now, each of them offering something unique to a cocktail. There’s something on the list for everyone… as long as they like gin!” Lucrezia Frosutto, Head Mixologist

Gin cocktails from PocketSquare’s previous menus (which have been inspired by London, art, culture and fictional characters) come together with two brand new gin cocktails on a list of eight signature cocktails. Drinks include:

Taiyo – this striking drink was a firm favourite on the first PocketSquare menu. Inspired by Londoner William Adams who was the first English navigator to reach Japan, the drink features Roku Gin, yuzu and plum wine.

Meiso – from the second cocktail menu comes the beautiful Meiso. Inspired by London’s Kyoto Gardens the drink features Roku Gin, Mikan Essence, Peach & Aloe Vera Sake and Bamboo syrup.

Kushty – from PocketSquare’s pop culture menu comes Kushty, a drink honouring none other than Del Boy. This take on the pina colada features Hendricks Gin, Koko Kanu and Fair Passionfruit.

Enigma – new to the menu is this perplexing drink inspired by the Enigma cipher machine. The hard-to-decipher, sweet sip mixes biscuit infused Hepple gin, marshmallow syrup, chocolate bitters and a coffee foam.

Prohibitionist – a new refreshing, zingy cocktail featuring Pentire Seaward non-alcoholic gin, mandarin juice, Prosecco Zero syrup and citric acid. The drink showcases one of the incredible non-alcoholic gins that are now available.

Head mixologist Lucrezia Frosutto and her expert team, continued with this menu to experiment with processes and ingredients that reduce the waste involved in cocktail making. In the Prohibitionist cocktail, flat non-alcoholic Prosecco has been used to make a syrup and the whole of a mandarin is used in the cocktail; with the juice going into the drink and the peel being dehydrated and crushed into a powder garnish. Enigma sees leftover biscuits used to infuse Hepple Gin and waste coffee grounds from making espressos repurposed for a coffee foam.

Winter terrace & cocktail art

To coincide with the new menu launch PocketSquare’s alfresco terrace with unbeatable views of east London has had a winter makeover. Fairy lights, warm blankets and a Christmas tree hedge will give the terrace a cosy and festive feel, while a collection of new pop-art inspired cocktail prints will feature across the terrace and bar.

For the bar’s new artwork, PocketSquare worked with their favourite cocktail photographer Jodi Hinds to create a range of pop-art inspired prints of the cocktails on the new menu. The prints will adorn the walls of the bar and terrace, as well as featuring on the bar’s coasters.

Art and supporting up-and-coming artists has been at the heart of PocketSquare since the bar’s launch in 2021. Previously PocketSquare has worked with a range of artists and creators on specially commissioned works for the venue including street artist Jay Kaes and fabric designer Ellen Russell. The bar has also hosted a series of Curated at Hyatt Place exhibitions with photographers Ben Broomfield and David Stetson; street artist Sam Kerridge and renowned cartoonist Bill Tidy.

The new winter cocktail menu is available at PocketSquare from 8th November, to enjoy on the winter terrace or in the art-filled indoor bar area. For bookings and more information visit the website here.
