Sleep Divorce Alternative: How Split Beds Are Saving Modern Relationships

New data from Grosvenor Mobility reveals over half of customers (68%) say split adjustable beds offer couples a practical alternative to ‘sleep divorce’, boosting sleep quality and reducing snoring without needing separate bedrooms.

While Prince William and Princess Kate have reportedly opted for separate rooms, a tradition long commonplace among royal couples, new research suggests UK couples may not need to go to such drastic lengths to enjoy a restful night.

In fact, among respondents using a split adjustable bed, nearly three in five (59%) said individual controls meant either “we both sleep much better now” or “it has stopped us from waking each other up.”

Results from a recent customer survey by mobility experts Grosvenor Mobility highlights how split adjustable beds are helping partners sleep differently while staying side by side, offering a practical solution to common nighttime disruptions like snoring, movement, and conflicting routines.

    • 68% reported that their adjustable bed improved their partner’s sleep quality alongside their own.

    • 45% noticed a drop in snoring when using the bed’s head-up elevation feature.

    • Nearly 1 in 4 (24%) revealed that elevating the head of the bed significantly reduced or completely stopped snoring altogether.

Rather than a sign of relationship trouble, seeking independence in bed is becoming a practical solution for couples with differing sleep needs. Split adjustable beds bridge the gap, allowing partners to stay close without sacrificing a restful night’s sleep.

Leighton Roberts, Managing Director at Grosvenor Mobility, comments: “Couples rarely have identical sleep needs. One person may prefer to sleep more upright, another may move more during the night, while snoring or differing routines can leave both partners waking up tired.

That’s why split adjustable beds can be such an effective middle ground. Each person has independent control over their own side of the bed, so they can find the position that works best for them without disturbing their partner. It gives couples complete freedom over how they sleep, while still allowing them to share the same bed. For many people, the answer to better sleep doesn’t have to be separate bedrooms. It can simply be creating a sleep set-up that works for two different people.”
