Celebrate this Christmas with a Chocolate Orange Burnt Basque Cheesecake!
The Toll House Deli launches a new handcrafted Basque cheesecake collection for Christmas.
The Toll House Deli is a tiny family-run deli in Chelsea which is quickly becoming one of London’s most exciting new destinations for burnt Basque cheesecake.
Alimah – a doctor turned baker – says: “Chocolate and orange is such an iconic festive combination, and I wanted to turn that familiar Christmas flavour into something really indulgent. Rich chocolate, bright orange and that signature creamy Burnt Basque texture make it feel properly decadent and celebratory.
With our seasonal cheesecakes, I always want to start with flavours people already have an emotional connection to and then give them a Toll House twist.
The Toll House Deli, newly opened on Cremorne Road, has launched a handcrafted Basque cheesecake collection that blends indulgent flavours, elegant presentation and small-batch baking — all from a compact neighbourhood deli with just four seats and a growing word-of-mouth following.
At the centre of the concept are the deli’s signature mini burnt Basque cheesecakes: perfectly caramelised on the outside, rich and creamy within, and designed for gifting, gatherings and modern dessert lovers looking for something both nostalgic and elevated.
Available individually, as mixed flavour boxes, or in full-sized celebration format:
4-inch individual cheesecake – £10
9-inch celebration cheesecake – £40
The collection includes:
Classic Basque
Pistachio Luxe
Chocolate Decadence
Lotus Biscoff Crunch
Berry Compote
Each cheesecake is baked in small batches by the deli’s founders, who created the business as a passion project combining a love of baking, thoughtful hospitality and beautifully made food.
“We wanted to create something that felt indulgent and generous, but still handmade and personal,” says the founder. “The cheesecakes became the product everyone kept coming back for. The mini versions especially feel perfect for gifting, sharing and celebrations.”
The cheesecakes are produced alongside a wider celebration cake collection and deli offering but have rapidly become the standout signature product for the business. The mini-Basque cheesecakes are intentionally designed to feel luxurious yet approachable — ideal for dessert tables, birthdays, dinner parties and modern gifting culture.
The launch taps into the continued popularity of Basque cheesecake nationwide, while offering a distinctly refined London interpretation. Unlike traditional New York cheesecake, Basque cheesecake is known for its deeply caramelised top, lighter texture and custard-like centre — qualities that The Toll House Deli has made central to its identity.
A tiny Chelsea deli with a growing reputation
The business itself is equally distinctive. Located inside a former toll house at 42 Cremorne Road in Chelsea, the tiny deli occupies a building that once served as a dry cleaners and later housed the cupcake shop A Storm in a Cupcake before sitting empty for years. The founders restored the space into a warm, floral-inspired neighbourhood deli centred around cakes, coffee and handmade food.
Despite the deli’s small footprint — approximately 180–200 square feet — the brand has quickly established a strong visual identity through its nostalgic design, hand-painted exterior mural and highly photogenic cake collection.
In addition to the Basque cheesecake range, The Toll House Deli also offers celebration cakes, loaded focaccia sandwiches, loaf cakes, pastries, speciality coffee and matcha drinks.
The deli’s celebration cake collection includes elegantly finished cakes inspired by London neighbourhoods, including The Chelsea Show, The Wimbledon, The Kensington and The Notting Hill, each decorated with Swiss meringue buttercream, florals, fruit and delicate detailing.
Customers can order Basque cheesecakes and celebration cakes online for delivery or collection from the Chelsea deli, with selected customisation available for celebrations and events.
The Toll House Deli is now open at 42 Cremorne Road, Chelsea, London.
