The Crossing Indian Bistro is now open today, 14th October, and invites diners to discover India through a menu shaped by Chef-Founder Ankur Chakraborty’s childhood railway journeys and regional food traditions.
At The Crossing, Indian food is explored through the lens of the country’s regional diversity, as the menu travels across its different regions and culinary traditions. Inspired by his journeys with his father in his childhood, Ankur was introduced to the changing landscapes, flavours and food cultures of India from an early age and gained experiences that would later shape his approach to cooking.
Regional flavours and railway journeys across India
The dish most closely connected to The Crossing’s story is the Railway Lamb Curry, reflecting the journeys on the Indian Railways. The dish brings together slow-braised lamb with a smoked Rogani Laal Maas-style, giving the depth and warmth of those memories.
One of The Crossing’s specialities, Gunpowder Prawns leads guests south, drawing inspiration from the punchy flavours of southern India and podi, the dry spice blend often referred to as ‘gunpowder’. The pan-grilled prawns paired with podi, butter and garlic, turn a familiar coastal ingredient into something distinctly regional and contemporary.
Another highlight, the Crossing Chaat Bowl, is a contemporary interpretation of one of India’s most loved street-food traditions. White lentil dumplings, chickpea chaat, chutneys and a crisp shiso leaf bring together the sweet, sour, spicy, cream and crunchy contrasts that define chaat, while offering a twist from The Crossing’s modern lens.
Guests can enjoy more journeys through India with the Madras Mutton Pepper Fry with Idli, which brings together stir-fried curry lamb and a mini idli, alongside other dishes with the generous spirit of sharing, including the Alleppey Prawn Curry, inspired by Kerala’s backwaters and the Kerala Fried Chicken, which showcases the bold southern Indian flavours.
Desserts are also part of the journey across India, with the Mango Serradura, inspired by Goa’s Portuguese influence and served with biscuit crumbs, alongside the Dubai Date Toffee Pudding, accompanied by house-made carrot halwa ice cream.
Guests can enjoy the drinks menu which includes much-loved cocktails such as City of Joy, Punjab Mail and Dhun, as well as a selection of beer options. For those seeking non-alcoholic options, popular mocktails include the Tripura Ticket, Kashmir Dew and Mumbai Local.
From 26th October, The Crossing will also introduce its £15 lunchtime Thali, giving Ealing diners the opportunity to experience a traditional Indian lunch. Guests can choose a main curry, served with Zeera Aloo, Saag Makai, Dal of the Day, Raita, House Pickle, Steamed Basmati Rice and freshly baked Tandoor Bread.
Chef-Founder Ankur Chakraborty, spoke of the menu: “Every dish on our menu tells a different story about the traditions and flavours of India. For me, the menu curated is a way for us to showcase the various stops on the journey through India, some connected to the train journeys with my father while others explore regional traditions, bringing a sense of discovery to the wider menu.
We’re ready to invite guests of Ealing to try our menu that brings together railway memories and traditions in The Crossing's contemporary style, while still recognising the ingredients and flavour profiles that make India's cuisine so diverse."
The Crossing Indian Bistro is now open at 5-6 The Greens, Ealing from 14th October, with a 50% off food soft launch. The £15 Thali lunch will be available from 26th October.
Bookings can be made via the live reservation page.
