Sainsbury’s To Carry Nigerian Pastries: Tasty African Food Ready Meal Range Expands

Tasty African Food has expanded its retail range with the launch of three new Nigerian-inspired pastries in Sainsbury’s.

The new range includes a Beef Roll, Chicken Pie and Meat Pie, each priced at £3.99.

The launch is the latest step in Tasty African Food’s mission to make West African food more widely accessible across the UK. By introducing traditional Nigerian recipes in recognisable pastry formats, the brand hopes to encourage more shoppers to discover African flavours beyond the traditional world food aisle.

    The new range includes:

Tasty African Food Beef Roll, 200g – £3.99

A Nigerian take on the classic sausage roll, made with seasoned minced beef wrapped in a soft, slightly sweet pastry. Familiar in format but distinctly West African in flavour, the Beef Roll offers shoppers an alternative to one of Britain’s best-known savoury snacks.]

Tasty African Food Chicken Pie, 250g – £3.99

A short, buttery pastry crust filled with chicken, potato and carrot. Rather than relying on the cream or stock-led filling typically associated with British chicken pies, the Nigerian-inspired recipe is seasoned with thyme, pepper and curry spices for a richer, more aromatic flavour.

Tasty African Food Meat Pie, 250g – £3.99

One of Nigeria’s best-loved snacks and the flagship product of the new range. Nigerian meat pies are a staple at everything from family celebrations and parties to bakeries and roadside kiosks, making the dish an instantly recognisable part of everyday food culture for many Nigerians.

The launch reflects Tasty African Food’s wider ambition to bring African food into more everyday eating occasions. Rather than treating African cuisine as something limited to specialist retailers or dedicated supermarket sections, the brand is introducing products that can sit naturally alongside familiar British lunch, snack and convenience options.

For existing fans of Nigerian food, the pastries offer a convenient way to enjoy recognisable flavours at home. For shoppers discovering the cuisine for the first time, the familiar pie and roll formats offer an accessible introduction to West African cooking.

The range joins Tasty African Food’s growing retail presence as the business continues to introduce more shoppers across the UK to the dishes and flavours at the heart of West African food culture.

Simi Olaleye, Chief Financial Officer of Tasty African Food, said:

“Pastries like meat pies and beef rolls are such a familiar part of everyday life in Nigeria, so bringing them into a major UK supermarket is a really exciting milestone for us.

“We want African food to feel accessible to everyone. These products are formats British shoppers already know and love, but with the flavours and seasoning that make Nigerian pastries distinctive. It gives people who grew up with these foods something familiar while also making it really easy for someone new to West African cuisine to give them a try.”
