Attic Self Storage Partners with Surplus to Supper for Special Market Event

TV chef, Dipna Anand will host the Attic Self Storage market stall on Saturday 27th July, giving locals the opportunity to taste her special creation whilst supporting a good cause

Today, a charity initiative aimed at supporting the local community of Sunbury on Thames has been launched by a new business to the area – Attic Self Storage – in partnership with local charity, Surplus to Supper who are working to bridge the gap between food poverty and food waste.

Celebrity chef, Dipna Anand, who grew up in London will front the campaign, joining Attic Self Storage to raise money to support Surplus to Supper. As part of the initiative, Attic Self Storage and Dipna will host a stall at Surplus to Supper’s Surplus Market, taking place on Saturday 27th of July between 11.30-1 pm at the Sunbury Cricket Club, which is open to the public.

The Attic Self Storage stall will sell limited-edition nutritious meals, created by Dipna using surplus ingredients, on a “buy one, feed one” basis, where for each meal bought, a matching meal will be donated to someone in need. The meal will be created using surplus ingredients, collected by the charity from local businesses. The cost of each meal will be £8.95 and Attic Self Storage has pledged to match each purchase with a donation to Surplus to Supper, to fund the purchase of an industrial blender, so the charity can expand its operations.

Dipna, who regularly appears on James Martin Saturday Morning, will also share the recipe for her limited-edition meal which will be available on the Attic Self Storage’s website from 29th July.

The need for food distribution charities like Surplus to Supper has risen drastically in the UK in the past year, with 7.2 million households experiencing ‘food insecurity’ in 2022/23, an increase of 2.5 million people since 2021/22*.

This initiative is the latest in a series of community campaigns from Attic Self Storage, with the company continuing to focus on supporting the communities it operates in via outreach projects that give back. Sophie Bagnall, Marketing Director at Attic Self Storage says: “We put the community at the heart of everything we do at Attic. We want to welcome the Sunbury community into the Attic family by supporting local initiatives and thus local people. Surplus to Supper is achieving such amazing things and we want to work to help them to expand operations even further with the help of new equipment. We can’t wait to see what Dipna creates.”

Claire Hopkins, Operations and Development Director of Surplus to Supper adds: “We have seen a huge demand for meals from our kitchen, but we are operating at capacity. An industrial blender will be game-changing and will help our kitchen produce surplus soups to those who need them, while also allowing us to use even more of the surplus vegetables we have available. We are hugely appreciative of Attic Self Storage’s pledge to support us on this mission and would like to call out to all the Sunbury and surrounding locals to attend the market so we can achieve as many donations as possible.”

Dipna Anand on joining the local initiative comments: “I’m thrilled to be a part of this incredible initiative that tackles food waste while helping to feed the local Sunbury community. It’s an honor to contribute my culinary skills and recipe to help raise money so the dedicated team at Surplus to Supper can grow their operation and help even more people in need.”

Attic Self Storage is excited to announce the addition of its latest storage facility at 8 Hanworth Road, Sunbury. In line with their commitment to community support, the Sunbury store team has chosen Surplus to Supper as the charity to receive a £5 donation for every new customer that moves in. An initiative that was started by the company in August of 2022 across all Attic stores, donating over £22,000 so far.
