Following on from the success of the pop up in Lush Studios, Soho, The Poetry Pharmacy will return to a permanent location within Lush Oxford Street, situated on the first floor and occupying 62 sq ft.
Founded by poet Deborah Alma, The Poetry Pharmacy specialises in poetry on prescription – to aid with a variety of emotional ailments. Customers can browse poetic remedies in the form of beautiful books curated by emotion, to a range of Poemcetamol pills and other bookish delights or be prescribed good coffee and cake in the Dispensary Coffee Shop.
Whether you are suffering from the stresses of the modern world or the pain of a broken heart or simply need a tonic for the spirits, The Poetry Pharmacy has a poetic remedy for you.
Lush’s collaboration started after poetry lover Mark Constantine, Co-founder and CEO got in touch with Alma, after The Poetry Pharmacy was shortlisted in 2021 for an Independent Business Award in a competition run by entrepreneur and champion of small businesses Holly Tucker. Lush was on the judging panel and a friendship with Mark and then, more widely, members of the Lush team began.
Since then poetry has featured in the Lush Spa, products and gift range. Mark Constantine and Deborah Alma are currently writing a book entitled The Poetry Business School coming later this year. The book is a dialogue and mentoring relationship through emails and poetry charting the journey to The Poetry Pharmacy opening its first London location..
Deborah Alma commented: “My long term mission has been to bypass the gatekeepers and bring poetry to more people in playful and engaging ways; and I couldn’t have wished for a better place to do it. With the generous support of Lush, now poetry will be on the most famous shopping street in the world!”
The Poetry Pharmacy can be visited from 1st June during Lush Oxford Street’s opening hours (Monday – Saturday 10am – 9pm, Sunday 11am – 5pm).
Set over three floors, Lush on Oxford Street features an array of innovative and engaging experiences and offerings, such as the Lush Spa, an in-store florist and a Perfume Library.
