B Corp lighting design studio Spark & Bell, is showing its “Seraphín” chandelier at Material Matters Copenhagen, part of 3daysofdesign 2025.

After three successful London editions of Material Matters, the fair is going to Copenhagen, 18-20 June, and Spark & Bell is in for the ride. Bringing its “Seraphín” multi-tiered chandelier to Material Matters Copenhagen, Gammel Dok, Christianshavn; the lighting design studio joins a select roster of curated exhibitors.

Emer Gillespie, founder, Spark & Bell; “I’ve always wanted to make the trip to 3daysofdesign so I’m hugely excited to be able to do that, while also bringing along our newest lighting creation. Spark & Bell being part of Material Matters Copenhagen feels just the right way to experience one of design’s best events and to put our lighting on an international stage.”

“Seraphín” is a multi-tiered chandelier that uses crystalline drops made from Spark and Bell’s unique “Jewel” recycled plastic, giving an ethereal quality to its cascading, multi-tiered design. Adding a sense of weightless movement, these pill-shaped drops diffuse and spread light with an aura-like quality for a mesmerising centre piece.

Designed by Emer and hand-assembled in Spark & Bell’s Brighton workshop, “Seraphín” is a statement light that stays true to the studio’s mentality of responsible material use and enduring quality. For example, Spark & Bell’s “Jewel” recycled plastic is made in-house by chipping and forming unwanted CD cases, otherwise headed for landfill. The three-tier “Seraphín” turns over eight kilograms of this material into beautiful crystalline lozenges.

Just like every light from Spark & Bell, “Seraphín” uses modularity and replaceable components so that it is fully repairable through the studio’s lifetime repair service. Spark & Bell also offers a 10 year warranty, one of the longest in the lighting industry.

“I believe good design is not just the beauty and functionality of the object,” continues Emer. “It is also about how that product is made, where its materials come from, its ability to endure use and what happens when it’s no longer wanted. All these things must be considered in equality – that’s thoughtful. There’s always some fascinating and exciting perspectives at Material Matters, so I’m looking forward to being among them and sharing how our ethos has shaped “Seraphín”.”

Material Matters is known for its mix of innovators, craft and industry pushing the boundaries of design and material applications. Previous editions have shown rope made from human hair, mycelium mirrors, furniture made from 100% post-consumer scrap aluminium and experimental high-performance textiles. Material Matters Copenhagen brings this unique perspective to 3daysofdesign.
Co-founders, Grant Gibson and William Knight, say, “It feels like the right time to take Material Matters to a new audience. We are incredibly happy to be showcasing a string of thoughtful installations and products. We believe it will be a wonderful show.”
