Global multidisciplinary design studio, JPA Design announces a new landmark concept project, “Afterglow,” a private jet retrofit that sets a new benchmark for
luxury aviation. This visionary design transformation not only prioritizes passenger well-being but also champions sustainability, marking a significant leap forward in private aviation.
The highly customised redesign includes meticulously produced details and finishes by JPA Design featuring a sophisticated biodynamic lighting system. This masterfully crafted wall-mounted orb synchronizes with the overall cabin lighting and replicates the solar movements of the sunrise and sunset. The system adjusts to optimal lighting scenarios based on flight time and destination time zone, aligning with passengers’ natural circadian cycles.
By choreographing the environmental lighting, the “Afterglow” cabin facilitates passengers’ physiological adaptation to destination time zones during flight, effectively mitigating the effects of jet lag. This retrofit places passenger well-being at the forefront, making health and wellness a cornerstone of luxury design.
Elliott Koehler, Creative Director at JPA Design comments: “With ‘Afterglow,’ we’re redefining what luxury means in private aviation. True luxury today isn’t just about aesthetic beauty—it’s about creating environments that actively enhance our passengers’ well-being. Every design decision, from our lighting system to the intuitive cabin layout, serves both form and function.”
The cabin’s layout also prioritizes both comfort and functionality. Positioned at the rear for optimal privacy, the spacious washroom doubles as a changing room, while the convertible sofa-to-double bed is strategically offset to ensure unobstructed washroom access in any configuration. The design integrates luxury amenities including a custom mini bar, full-length wardrobe, and bespoke side furnishings to create a seamless living space in the sky.
JPA Design’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the retrofit approach itself. As the private aviation sector grows, many operational aircraft face premature retirement due to outdated interiors. “Afterglow” offers a solution that breathes new life into existing aircraft through innovative design solutions, reducing waste while elevating the passenger experience.
While initially developed for the private aviation sector, JPA Design’s innovative approach has the potential to shape the future of flying and signals a broader vision for the future of commercial aviation. As always, JPA sets the benchmark, continuously transforming the aviation industry.
The new “Afterglow” retrofit by JPA Design launched this January 2025.
