Veganuary is here, and for office vegans across the UK, finding plant-based eateries in the workplace can be a struggle. A recent study by leading office furniture specialist, Furniture At Work, has revealed the top cities to survive Veganuary – perfect for those navigating lunchtimes and snack dilemmas.

The study ranks cities based on the number of vegan restaurants within the area, showing office workers where to find the most plant-based options near them. Whether it’s grabbing a meat-free burger on lunch break or stocking up on vegan snacks to share with your team, some cities make plant-based life easier than others.

    London tops the list:

London takes the crown as the ultimate city for vegans, boasting an impressive 1,000 vegan-friendly eateries.

    Here’s the top 10:

    1. London – 1,000 vegan restaurants

    2. Manchester – 684 vegan restaurants

    3. Edinburgh – 566 vegan restaurants

    4. Bristol – 485 vegan restaurants

    5. Birmingham – 516 vegan restaurants

    6. Glasgow – 521 vegan restaurants

    7. Brighton – 439 vegan restaurants

    8. Newcastle-upon-Tyne – 421 vegan restaurants

    9. Liverpool – 419 vegan restaurants

    10. Bradford – 396 vegan restaurants

At the bottom of the list is Plymouth, with just 105 vegan restaurants, leaving plant-based workers with fewer options to navigate the month-long challenge.

Why Veganuary matters in the workplace:

Plant-based lifestyles have grown significantly in the UK, with recent studies showing that nearly two-thirds of Brits participating in Veganuary in 2024 continued to eat a vegan diet for at least the 6 months that followed. Veganuary is a perfect time for workplaces to support this shift, whether by offering more plant-based options in office catering or simply showing solidarity by sharing a meat-free meal.

A spokesperson at Furniture At Work commented:

“Supporting Veganuary in the workplace is about more than just food—it’s about fostering an inclusive environment for all employees. From team lunch outings to thoughtful kitchen snacks, creating a plant-friendly culture can strengthen workplace relationships and even boost employee morale!”

With London, Manchester, and Edinburgh leading the way, and smaller cities like Plymouth and Derby trailing behind, it’s clear there’s a lot of variation in how vegan-friendly cities can be. For those planning to try Veganuary, being in one of these top cities might just make the challenge a bit easier.
