Seven Lion Yard: A Pioneering Wellbeing Centre Uniting Mind and Body Through Psychology and Somatic Approaches

Seven Lion Yard, a new holistic health and wellbeing centre based in Clapham, South London, is pioneering an approach that combines traditional psychological therapy with somatic approaches, under the same roof. As a business, their philosophy challenges the separation between mind and body found in many health services, emphasising the importance of integrating the two for a more holistic approach to wellbeing.

At Seven Lion Yard, the belief is that true psychological change comes from integrating what people know with what they feel. A purely cognitive or analytical approach often misses the body-based, emotional, and sometimes unconscious drivers of behaviour. By using and integrating body-based, somatic approaches like mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork, individuals can become more attuned to their emotional responses, leading to a meaningful and enduring change in wellbeing.

With its holistic psychology and wellbeing services, Seven Lion Yard is committed to supporting adults, children, families and organisations, with a team of experienced Clinical Psychologists and somatic facilitators.

Psychology Clinic

The psychology clinic provides professional mental health services that are tailored to the needs of each client, whether that be seeking help with personal growth, navigating life transitions or overcoming mental health difficulties. The team at Seven Lion Yard consists of highly skilled and compassionate professionals who specialise in a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, and Child and Family Psychology. Through taking a holistic approach, the Clinical Psychologists empower individuals to develop coping skills, resilience and self-awareness, promoting long-term mental health and wellbeing.

In addition to working with individual clients, Seven Lion Yard also offers specialised services for educational and corporate clients, providing tailored consultation services, workshops and training sessions, individual and group support for staff or students, and bespoke packages to suit specific needs.

Group Studio

The top-floor group studio has been designed with relaxation, calm and restoration in mind. The studio, available to both psychology clients and the public, offers a sanctuary from everyday noises and distractions, providing a space where individuals can reconnect with themselves through the transformative power of breath, mindfulness and meditation. Many psychology clients find that engaging in these practices alongside psychological therapy enhances the progress they make, providing a reflective space and skills in nervous system regulation. Conversely, clients interested in enhancing their wellbeing through classes have gone on to engage in therapy to process and understand what is coming up for them.

The classes and facilitators have been selected to ensure individuals receive the best guidance and support. The classes offer a blend of evidence-based practices to help tackle life’s challenges, ease stress and enhance overall wellbeing. The practices include:

  • Breathwork Classes- The relaxing breathwork classes teach individuals how to use their breathing to manage stress, tension and anxiety effectively. These classes help to soothe the nervous system and restore balance in the mind and body.
  • Mindfulness Techniques- Mindfulness techniques can teach individuals to be more present and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their surroundings. By practicing non-judgemental observation of thoughts and emotions, individuals will be able to gain valuable insights into their inner world, enhancing their ability to navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience.
  • Meditation Practices- Meditation provides a space for stillness and introspection. Through guided practices, participants will learn to quiet their mind, access inner wisdom, and cultivate peace and balance. Whether participants are new to these practices or are seasoned practitioners, the supportive community and experienced instructors at Seven Lion Yard are on hand to assist individuals towards improving their wellbeing.

There is a developing program of workshops taking place alongside regular classes at Seven Lion Yard. At the moment these take place approximately every four to six weeks but this frequency will increase in the coming months. These are on a range of topics and can be an extension of some of the class practices but also introduce new practices. Upcoming workshops include conscious connected breathwork, a healing and releasing breath practice. They are also offering an antenatal workshop co-facilitated by a breathwork facilitator and perinatal Clinical Psychologist for connection, reflection and soothing during pregnancy.
