Amathus announces its first wine warehouse, in East Sheen

Following the opening of its Wimbledon store, Amathus announces the opening of its new format, a Wine Warehouse in East Sheen

Amathus, the specialist drinks importer, distributor and retailer, continues to expand its successful retail estate from nine to fourteen stores with its first Wine Warehouse, located in South West London’s East Sheen.

Hot on the heels of the Wimbledon store launch in July, Amathus will open its inaugural Wine Warehouse in East Sheen, Richmond on 17th August. The larger warehouse format, covering approximately 1,750sq. ft, is new territory for Amathus and is testament to the business’ ambition to be a leading wine and spirits retailer in the UK. The new format will host the greatest Amathus portfolio display yet, granting ample choice to wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts.

Harry Georgiou, Managing Director of Amathus Drinks who was on the shop floor of the first Amathus store from the very first day, says: “We are thrilled to be opening our most ambitious concept to date – the first Amathus wine warehouse – in East Sheen. This newest opening will be home to a much larger Amathus store, where you can browse the most extensive, yet carefully curated, range of wines on offer, alongside an eclectic and thought-provoking selection of spirits.

“The warehouse will showcase our delicious drinks range with regular tastings, masterclasses and events in dedicated tasting spaces, hosted by one of our Masters of Wine – ensuring our advice and service is always of the highest level. It wouldn’t be an Amathus warehouse if it felt like any other Wine Warehouse, so we’re really excited for people to experience this new launch.”

Following the first store opening in London, in 1978 by the Georgiou family, Amathus has grown into a premium London wholesaler, keeping over 5,000 lines – many of which are exclusive. Since its inception, Amathus has continued to build on its standing as the trusted specialty spirits name in the London trade and a long-standing wholesaler of wines. Amathus has found a loyal and knowledgeable consumer following in its premium stores in Bath, Brighton, and across London, including Hampstead, Shoreditch, and its newest outlets in Elgin Crescent and Wimbledon, who flock to explore some 800 unique wines from 150 exclusive producers, sourced by Amathus’ expert team which includes two Maters of Wine.

On opening the business’ first Wine Warehouse in East Sheen, Harry Georgiou continues: “Walk into any of our stores, packed floor to ceiling with the very best of the grand families, as well as the most exciting wines from new wave producers and less distributed regions like Greece and Georgia, served by a team recruited for their joy in wines, and you’ll know instantly that you’re in an Amathus store.

“East Sheen is our gateway to Richmond, Kew, Barnes, and Putney, and is set to become a real destination experience for so many local communities. No two Amathus stores are alike, with each exuding its own vibrancy, and we look forward to East Sheen mapping out its own place in our tradition of distinctiveness under one family. We are proud to become a member of the East Sheen community and look forward to welcoming locals into the store.”

The stores are havens for seasoned enthusiasts, whilst providing a welcoming space for those seeking to expand their knowledge. The shelves, stacked from floor to ceiling with hidden gems and tantalising classics provide something for everyone, for every occasion. And eschewing the brand-driven culture of all the multiples, each store oozes an edgy, drinks-savvy but warm atmosphere which is very much an expression of its local terroir.
